Did you know that more than 46% of Amsterdammers sometimes feel lonely and more than 13% even extremely lonely?
It will undoubtedly not have escaped you, but from 1 to 8 October it has been “the week of loneliness”. HVO-Querido started a project together with six other countries in the European Erasmus + program a year ago to tackle loneliness.

Week against loneliness

The project focuses on recognizing, discussing and breaking the taboo connected to loneliness.This week we have a good reason to highlight the project and the subject of loneliness. In this week we met with the Erasmus projectgroup of the Netherlands to make more than 100 packages that are symbol for the to taboo loneliness. Sharing is caring, to break the circle

This filled tupperware box with a sticker on it: Sharing = Caring was filled with all kinds of fun and innovative ideas to break the daily circle of loneliness, such as:
• Two bags of sugar and a letterbox sticker with the text: Call us for a cup of sugar;
• A postcard including a stamp to be sent to a family member and / or acquaintance who speaks only with a few people;
• A cookie to share with someone on the street;
• An abundance of compliments that you can give or receive during the day;
• A dog biscuit that makes an opening for a chat with a stranger who walks with a dog.
And all this in a container that you can fill with a nice meal and then share with some
There is also a ticket-voucher with ten surprising ideas to combat loneliness in daily life that contribute to the awareness of loneliness.
After all, every little gesture or sincere chat is a valuable contribution to the life of someone who sees or speaks to few people. In the week of loneliness, we gave the Sharing = Caring boxes to the social workers to distribute in their own network. We also took them personally to the Erasmus + Headquarters in Den Bosch on monday, so that policy makers and project leaders in the office consciously participate in breaking loneliness. We were able to briefly tell you about the impact of the Sharing = Caring boxes, the expected result and distribution around the taboo of loneliness.

HUMAN documentary

The entire week was devoted to create awareness, breaking through and discussing loneliness. Together with the broadcaster HUMAN, we were able to make 3 short documentaries in which we spoke to lonely people and made our Erasmus K2 project widely known in the media. Our own internet page, linkedin, and facebook was also overloaded with beautiful interviews, stories, promotions and of course publication on the Sharing = Caring Box Look for all the documantation on:
